Traveling with Rheumatoid Arthritis is like embarking on an epic quest with a mischievous sidekick called "Flare-Up." Just when you're craving a peaceful escape, Flare-Up decides to crash the party.

We may not have the power to switch off our condition, but we can build up an arsenal of products to help.

So, without further ado, here are my top vacation must-haves that never leave my side when I hit the road:

Sunblock

When it comes to managing RA, some of the medications that can be taken to manage the condition can cause sensitivity to sunlight. The key to keeping our skin safe and glowing is slapping on some sunscreen and being diligent about reapplying.

Let's start with Black Girl Sunscreen, my ride or die for sun filled trips! Packed with all the good stuff that shields us from UVA and UVB it's a protective shield from the sun's harmful rays. It's infused with jojoba and avocado oils which leave your skin feeling nourished with a sun-kissed vacation ready glow. The magic for us melanated mavens, no white cast. It's light enough that I'm able to wear it on my face with no concerns. Plus, They released a new lip gloss to keep those lips protected.

Next up, another favorite of mine is Habit sunscreen. This pint-sized powerhouse slips right into my purse and stays with me, ready for when those rays are getting a bit intense. I give a quick spritz over makeup and we're good to go. Trust this is a game change you'll want in your arsenal and has really helped me with reapplying.

Water bottle

We all know staying hydrated is of the utmost importance. Have a water bottle handy that keeps your water refreshingly cold. You'll notice this water bottle by my side in most of my travel photos. I don't even bother leaving it out because it looks good.

It's stainless steel design will keep your water cold for up to 24hrs, perfect for those scorching hot days when you need a cool down.

It has a large mouth opening that makes cleaning a breeze, which has been a challenge with some others. A huge bonus of this bottle is that it doesn't sweat! The double wall vacuum installation keeps your drink cold and your hands dry.

Available in a kaleidoscope of beautiful eye-catching colors it has function and beauty. Plus with a handy carabiner clip, I attach it to my bag and I'm ready to go!

Pill Organizer

Say hello to organization bliss with this nifty little pill organizer. With seven different compartments - six small ones and a biggie - this organizer has space for all your pills and supplements.

The best part is it will fit easily within your carry on or personal item due to its compact design, so your medication is always within arm's reach.

It's sturdy, looks good and has a well thought out design. The magnet is strong enough to keep your pills safe, but easy enough to open even on your toughest days. No more accidental spills, this organizer has you covered.

Compression Socks

After walking all day taking in the beautiful sites, my feet need a reprieve. That's where these babies come in. These plantar fasciitis compression socks can be worn all day or after a long day to offer some reprieve.

These socks are a soothing oasis for tired tootsies. Touted to reduce swelling by improving blood flow and providing arch support these socks are just what you need after a day of adventure.

They are comfortable and breathable due to the open toe design. I've worn them under socks with no issue. They have a nice slim design that doesn't add extra bulk, so you'll be able to wear your shoes like normal. They add a comfortable much needed pressure to my arches, which can tend to ache after extended walking. Your feet will thank you for snagging these.

Sneakers

Compression socks can't save you if you're just wearing terrible shoes. Because let's face it, nothing puts a damper on your day like hobbling around town.

So, do yourself a favor and invest in a good pair of walking shoes – your feet will thank you later. Trust me, I've learned this lesson the hard way.

These white sneakers are my go to. They go with anything and keep my feet feeling good. These ones are chiropractor approved (at least by mines). With stellar arch support and a roomy toe bed, they keep me going through the day.

I originally bought them for a trip but they've turned into my most worn shoe. These bad boys have been everywhere with me and still with a magic eraser look fresh as ever.

Mini Fan

This little fan has saved me plenty of times from the sweltering heat. It fits right in my bag and holds a charge through the day, touting up to 19 hrs of power. It has three power settings to cool you off. Can be handheld or used as a desk fan. It even has a handy flashlight and usb charger.

But here's the real kicker – regulating temperature isn't just about staying comfortable. For those of us managing inflammation, overheating can spell trouble, leading to swelling and joint stiffness. While it's not an ice cold blast of AC, it's enough to offer relief.

During a trip to Epcot for the flower festival it was my only relief, from that terribly unshaded heat. That's why having a reliable fan like this one by your side is an absolute game-changer.

Travel blanket

Don't let chilly planes catch you off guard! This cozy travel blanket is your ticket to warmth and comfort. Long enough to cover your feet and plush as can be, it's a must-have for any journey. Plus, with a handy clip for your bag and a trolley sleeve for your suitcase, it's a breeze to bring along wherever you roam.

Sheet Set

Those with chronic illness know quality sleep is hard to come by and crucial to health. I'm not a fan of hotel sheets, so when I found these I was ecstatic. Seriously, it's my favorite Amazon find to date, and it hasn't left my travel essentials since I got it. Compact, convenient, and oh-so-comfy, it's a dream come true for any weary traveler. Plus, it comes with its own nifty case, so you can toss it in your bag without a second thought.

The fabric is luxuriously soft, but it's also breathable and lightweight, ensuring you get a good night's sleep no matter where you lay your head.

So, if you're like me and can't bear the thought of sleeping on scratchy or questionable hotel sheets, do yourself a favor and grab one of these portable sheet sets. Trust me, you won't want to travel without!

Lozenges

Dry mouth is the not so fun side effect of some rheumatoid medications. These lozenges are specifically formulated for dry mouth to give much needed relief and freshen your breath.

For those of us with TMJ issues, chewing gum can be a huge strain. These lozenges give you all the relief without any of the jaw strain and popping. Perfect or flights or when you need a little something to suck on.

Small Suitcase

"What you got in there, baby doll clothes?!" That's what a stewardess said to me when I first boarded a flight with this bag. Moments later she was asking where I got it.

I'll admit I have a bit of a suitcase obsession. This 14in suitcase is the newest addition to my collection and I use it all the time. It will fit underneath in front of you and can qualify as a personal item on flights though they'll still likely stop you to test it.

It has two roomy compartments, with a zip pouch for wet items. I can easily fit three days worth of clothes in it. Everytime I whip this out I get compliments, even the baggage handler told me it's a great bag!

It's perfect for a quick trip or to use in conjunction with your checked bag. I brought this with me to South Africa and on the way back filled it with my souvenirs and put everything else in my checked bag.

And here's where it gets personal - dealing with "Coat Hanger Pain'' is no joke. This describes pain in the neck and upper back area which can make caring even a small bag rather painful. This bag has been a game changer for me on trips. Not having to lug around a backpack through the airport has made the whole experience so much more comfortable. Don't hesitate to buy.

Headphones

Screaming babies, passengers arguing and the loud roar of the plane can sometimes be too much! Drown out the noise with these over-ear Bose Headphones. They have elevated my travel game and allow me to cocoon myself away in whatever medium I choose. They are comfortable and easy to pack. Though costly I'd definitely say they were worth the investment.

Well there you have it, some of my top items to get me through travel. What are some of your must haves, please share!
